The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, said the blockade at the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano was an attempt to disrupt the peace in Kano.

According to Leadership, Bichi said this while speaking on a local radio program about the blockade of Emir Sanusi’s palace.

Bichi alleged that security personnel at the scene claimed they were acting on “orders from above,” which he linked to the federal government.

“We were really surprised when we woke up to this development as the police sealed off the entrance to the palace of Kano Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

“What surprises us most is that Canoe is peaceful but it is only a few people with support from Abuja who do not want Kano to remain peaceful.”

He explained that the blockade disrupted the royal schedule as Emir Sanusi II planned to accompany the district chief of Bichi (Wamban Kano) to his domain.

Kano Emir Sanusi ignores the police presence

In the meantime, Legit.ng reported that on Friday, December 6, Emir Sanusi II chaired a sitting in his palace.

This was after police officers barricaded the palace and banned him from attending a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area.

Sanusi and his rival, Ado Bayero, capture the Kano throne, and this has fueled political tensions in the old city.
